前のブログ記事で「Facebookはコミュニティではなく社交パーティ」といったことを自分としてはけっこう労力をかけて確認した。

が、辞書をひいてみると、最初からちゃんと書いてあるじゃないか(笑)。

WebsterのLearner’s Dictionaryという英語学習者向けに、英単語をわかりやすく説明してくれるサイトがある（この辞書はオススメ）のだが、ここで “Social networking"を辞書引きすると次のごとくだ。

the activity of creating personal and business relationships with other people especially by sharing information, personal messages, etc., on the Internet

⇒ 他の人々とパーソナルおよびビジネスの関係をつくること。特にインターネットでの情報共有、パーソナル・メッセージなどを使う。

うーん、ズバリそのものだ。
やはり、他の人と関係を作る＝知り合いになる、ということがFacebookのメインの機能なのだよ、ワトソン君。

あれこれ考えず、最初からこれを読んでれば早かったな(笑)。
